The first volume of The Sensational Spider-Man was published in the period from January 1996 to November 1998 - during this time was released 35 rooms. This series has replaced Web of Spider-Man and conceived as a presentation of Ben Reilly - the new Spider-Man. Over the first seven editions of work, Dan Jurgens, but because of disagreements with the chief editor of a series related to the further development of the plot (Jurgens planned to return to the role of the spider, Peter Parker), he had to leave the series and in its place stood Dezago Todd and Mike Vering.
The second volume of The Sensational Spider-Man actually consists of two parts: the first - a 22 rooms Marvel Knights: Spider-Man, and the second - is directly The Sensational Spider-Man Volume 2, which started in February 2006 with 23 rooms and is essentially a continuation of Marvel Knights: Spider-Man under a different title. Distinctive feature of this series can be called what it is aimed at a more adult audience than the other editions of Spider-Man. Also implies that the Marvel Knights: Spider-Man will replace the 22-x serial Spider-Man's Tangled Web. Work on a script intended to entrust Kevin Smith, but in the end because of organizational problems, it had to be replaced by Mark Millar. After the storyline, which lasted a year, in place Millar got another writer - Reginald Hadlin. When the series changed its title from the Marvel Knights: Spider-Man on The Sensational Spider-Man Volume 2 Scenario engaged Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
