    تعرض لنا هذه الرواية عامين من حياة بطل الرواية فياض خلال فترة الخمسينات، حيث كانت الحكومة العميلة والرجعية تلاحق الكتاب المعارضين اليساريين، فيهرب إلى لبنان ويسكن مع عائلة صديقه خليل غزالة لكنّه يشعر وكأنّه عالة عليهم فهم مجرّد فقراء يكاد قوت يومهم لا يكفيهم، يتذكر فياض أصدقاءه ويبدأ بالتنقل بينهم ليجد في نهاية المطاف عملًا في بناء قيد الإنشاء ويتخفى تحت اسم سليمان لكنَّ أحداثًا مثيرة تحصل معه لنجده بعد فترة في أحد القرى النائية في جبل لبنان محاصرًا بالثلج والملل يكتب قصته الطويلة ويرسم لها نهايةً مغايرة!!
