Quadrophenia is the sixth studio album by English rock band The Who, released on 26 October 1973 by Track Records. It is a double album and the group's second rock opera. The story follows a young mod named Jimmy and his search for self-worth and importance, set in London and Brighton in 1965. It is the only Who album to be entirely composed by group leader Pete Townshend. Quadrophenia was released to a positive reception in both the UK and the US, but the resulting tour was marred with problems with backing tapes replacing the additional instruments on the album, and the stage piece was retired in early 1974. It was revived in 1996 with a larger ensemble, and a further tour occurred in 2012. The album made a positive impact on the mod revival movement of the late 1970s, and the resulting film adaptation, released in 1979, was successful.

Originally released in the UK in 1977 as the Sound of Bread and as ^Anthology) in the United States, this is a solid collection for these soft rock giants of the early '70s. Contained within are all of their hits, plus some delectable gems unknown to those familiar with Bread only from the radio. This set begins with "Make It With You," which hit the number one spot in 1970, and ends with the group's last Top Ten hit, "Lost Without Your Love" from their reunion album of 1977. Other Top Ten hits include "If," "Baby I'm-a Want You," "Everything I Own," "It Don't Matter to Me," and "Guitar Man," which reached number 11. The popular songs have held up well, but perhaps the most interesting cuts here are the lesser-known ones, like "Dismal Day," "Down on My Knees," and "The Last Time." David Gates and company had quite a run, and this anthology shows why.

SUPERB 1985 BROADCAST RECORDING FROM THE FIRM With Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers Formed in 1984 by singer Paul Rodgers, guitarist Jimmy Page, drummer Chris Slade and bass player Tony Franklin, The Firm were among the most successful and popular rock supergroups of all time. As Paul Rodgers remembers; "Jimmy was at a bit of a loose end. He'd come round and check out my home studio and we ended up writing songs, but without any definite plans. Jimmy was very keen to get back on the road, so we put a band together The first thing I knew was that he had to be writing songs again. I'd already seen one of my friends going down that road in Koss, and it wasn't going to happen again." During their tenure, The Firm released two studio albums; their eponymous debut in 1985, and Mean Business in 86. The band played a few dates in the UK at the end of 1984, and toured the US in both 1985 and 1986. One of the finest gigs the Firm performed however was at London s Wembley Arena on 22nd May 1985, when they played a quite astonishing set which was recorded for live FM Radio Broadcast across the UK and the US, and which remains a formidable example of mid-1980s British rock music at its very best. Previously unreleased, this entire recording is now available for the first time on this new 2 CD Set.

This record was a collaboration between Philip Oakey, the big-voiced lead singer of the techno-pop band the Human League, and Giorgio Moroder, the Italian-born father of disco who spent the '80s writing synth-based pop and film music. It is a testimony to Moroder's fame as a composer that he was able to earn equal billing with Oakey for a record he co-wrote and produced, but for which he supplied no more than "occasional synthesizers" as a musician. The music is not substantially different from the standard fare from the Human League or, for that matter, almost any other synth-based Europop band in the '80s.

This is the Schumann's Bicentennial year. There are many symphonic cycles to celebrate that, but very seldom we can find a truly great one along the whole of the 4 symphonies. Haitink's is one of these. Those are brilliant, solid and thrilling performances that show the mastery of maestro Haitink. Concertgebouw orchestra plays heavenly and sound by Philips is, one more time, a matter of admiration. Among cycles in modern and digital sound, this is one of the best choices.

Edwin "Eddie" Jobson is an English keyboardist and violinist noted for his use of synthesizers. He has been a member of several progressive rock bands, including Curved Air, Roxy Music, UK, Jethro Tull and (very briefly) Yes. "Theme of Secrets" is his second solo album. "Theme of Secrets" contains very dreamy electronic tracks, showing evidence of progressive elements, although there are no drums, no guitars, no violins and no bass: actually this record could be a reference when it is time to define what is progressive New Age. He uses state-of-the-art technology for the year, on the occurrence the synclavier: it gives multi-layered, mystic, mysterious, melancholic and nostalgic tracks, with just a small amount of never frightening darkness. Jobson creates here atmospheric & ethereal textures through symphonic and melodic sequenced patterns.

The tenth album from Nils Lofgren and his first for Columbia is a very polished affair with excellent production from Lofgren and Lance Quinn. The material is written by Lofgren, and it is all strong to very strong, with lyrics bordering on lecturing the listener. "Flip Ya Flip," the title track, and "Big Tears Fall" are the most commercial songs here, "Flip Ya Flip" a real odd one, though. Lofgren calls the guys "buddy," telling them to "lift your pretty head, hold it high" and the gals he calls "sister," terms of endearment for sure from a macho figure who has full-fledged membership in the "E Street" gang. Is the title track about an off-color gesture or life on a trampoline or indiscernible sexuality?

Electric Warrior is the sixth studio album by English glam rock act T. Rex. It's the group's second album released under the name "T. Rex", with the first four billed as "Tyrannosaurus Rex". It was released on 24 September 1971 by record label Fly in the UK and Reprise in the US. The album marks a turning point in the band's sound, dispensing with the folk-oriented music of the group's previous albums and pioneering a new, "glammier" style of rock known as glam rock. The album also drew attention to the band in the United States with the top 10 hit "Bang A Gong (Get It On)". This would prove to be the band's only successful single in America, deeming the band a "one-hit wonder" there.

Alongside his involvement in the commercially very successful progressive art rock band Van Der Graaf Generator, Briton Peter Hammill began an extremely productive solo career that continues to this day, partly with the support of various VdGG musicians. Hammill enjoyed experimenting with different styles and forms of musical expression that went far beyond the genre of rock music. After years of touring with his K-Group since the early 1980s, Hammill went on an extensive solo tour in 1985, covering 24 cities across Europe, with the motto: The Naked Songs. Hammill alone on stage, with his instruments and his songs, he and the audience. Peter remembers: I was, indeed, trying to strip things right down to their essence, to show and react with the material in its simplest state. The performances were, in a way, turning more into themselves rather than blasting out with bombast. Now the historic recordings from Radio Bremen, lovingly restored and mastered, are available on CD with great liner notes by the artist in the booklet.

White City: A Novel is a solo concept album by Pete Townshend of The Who, released in 1985 on Atco. After the experimental All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes, Pete Townshend returned to a more traditional form of concept album with White City: A Novel. Built around a loose narrative concerning urban despair, the album doesn't work very well conceptually, yet a handful of the individual songs are among his finest solo work, including the punchy "Face the Face" and the anthemic "Give Blood."

Songs from the Big Chair is the second studio album by the British rock/pop band Tears for Fears, released on 25 February 1985 by Mercury Records in most countries and distributed internationally by Phonogram Inc. The album peaked at number two in the UK and number one in the US and Canada. It spawned the international hit singles "Mothers Talk", "Shout", "Everybody Wants to Rule the World", "Head Over Heels", and "I Believe". It remains their best-selling album to date. Songs from the Big Chair has been included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. In a retrospective review published on AllMusic, Stanton Swihart wrote: "In the loping, percolating 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World', Tears for Fears perfectly captured the zeitgeist of the mid-'80s while impossibly managing to also create a dreamy, timeless pop classic. Songs from the Big Chair is one of the finest statements of the decade."
