    Label: Varèse Sarabande | FLAC (tracks+.cue,log,scans) | 30:43 | 170,3 Mb | 13 tracks
    Genre: Score, Soundtrack

Tales From The Crypt Presents: Bordello Of Blood (Original Motion Picture Score) showcases Chris Boardman’s atmospheric and suspense-driven music for the 1996 horror-comedy film. Unlike compilation soundtracks built around licensed rock tracks, this score focuses on original orchestral and hybrid compositions designed to support the film’s supernatural and darkly comedic tone. Boardman combines orchestral writing with subtle electronic elements and tension-building textures, creating a musical environment that shifts between horror, mystery, and occasional ironic lightness. The score emphasizes short cue structures typical of genre film scoring, with recurring motifs associated with characters and key narrative moments, particularly the vampire antagonist Lilith. Tracks such as “Peru / Meet Lilith,” “Confrontation,” and “Lilith Morphs” highlight the use of dissonant harmonies, rhythmic stingers, and atmospheric layering to build suspense. The overall result is a compact but effective horror score that reinforces the film’s blend of camp, violence, and supernatural themes while maintaining a cohesive cinematic identity.

Broughton balances grand cinematic orchestration with lighthearted musical humor, creating themes that shift between heroic excitement, comedic timing, and futuristic atmosphere. The score features sweeping brass fanfares, dynamic string arrangements, electronic textures, and rhythmic action cues that reflect the film’s eccentric tone and fast-paced storytelling. Tracks such as “Main Title / Take Care,” “Motorbike Chase,” and “The Seventh World / Big Battle” showcase the composer’s ability to merge traditional adventure scoring with imaginative science fiction elements. Additional pieces labeled as “Rock ‘n’ Roll” cues bring a stylized and unconventional edge to the soundtrack, reinforcing the film’s cult identity. Hogwood’s accounts are stylish and well recorded, though not quite so bracing in their effect. Both he and Gardiner have the same soloist in the B minor Suite, Lisa Beznosiuk, today’s leading exponent of the Baroque flute. Hers is an appealingly light and delicate tone, one that gives her an almost ghostlike presence in the tuttis. But she is able to hold her own in the solo passages, despite the difficulty of fingering, and in both accounts her playing is nicely ornamented, not overly affected.

This release documents the work of Flemish composer Flor Alpaerts (1876–1954). He was born into a life of privation, but studied at the Flemish School of Music in Antwerp and became a noteworthy violinist and conductor, Read more Pallieter of 1924 is based on a 1916 novel of the same title by Felix Timmermans, and it serves to document the initial phase of Alpaerts’s career as a composer. The result is an almost Delius-like essay that projects moments of joy leavened by an all-encompassing melancholy.
