Formed in 1996, ensemble VOX CLAMANTIS comprises a diversity of musicians – singers, composers, instrumentalists, and conductors – who have a common interest in Gregorian chant. Alongside Gregorian chant, considered to be the foundation of all European music, Vox Clamantis often performs early polyphony and contemporary music. Many Estonian composers, among them Arvo Pärt, Helena Tulve, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Tõnis Kaumann, and Sven Grünberg, have written compositions for Vox Clamantis.

Eleanor was born in England in 1275 to Beatrix of England and John II, Duke of Brittany. In 1283, at the age of eight, she entered Amesbury Priory, and in 1304 she became Abbess of Fontevraud, where she died in 1342. A Gradual bearing her coat of arms is now kept in Limoges public library; it is a richly illuminated manuscript, which can be dated to the second half of the thirteenth century. In addition to a Gregorian Mass, it contains a whole repertory of Propers: Sequences, proses, lessons and three two-voice polyphonic pieces that are wholly representative of an oral style. This entirely a cappella music, captivating and bewitching, is a discovery not to be missed.

Without a doubt, it is urgent to get back to essentials, to retrace the path from the canyons to the stars, to celebrate "the beauties of the earth (it's rocks, it's birdsongs), the beauties of the material sky, the beauties of the spiritual sky" as Messiaen writes at the head of his score. According to Jean-François Heisser, "there is a grandeur in this work that sweeps aside reservations about the composer; something in the music escapes us and instantly grips the audience". Brigitte Engerer was a French pianist. In 1980, her career took a decisive turn when Herbert von Karajan invited her to play with the Berlin Philharmonic. She subsequently received engagements with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris under Daniel Barenboim, and she was a favourite of conductors such as Mstislav Rostropovich and Zubin Mehta.[3] Her subsequent career was divided between giving recitals and teaching at the Paris Conservatoire. Her last concert took place on 12 June 2012 at the prestigious Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, 50 years after playing there for the first time. The performance featured the work of Schumann. She died less than two weeks later, on 23 June, after a several year struggle against cancer. She was 59 years of age.She had been married to the writer Yann Queffélec, with whom she had a daughter, Leonore. She later married Xavier Fourteau, and together they had a son, Harold Fourteau.

…in the Stabat mater… Nuria Rial's clean-toned singing in 'Vidit suum' has impressive control, clarity and profound expression. The two voices blend effectively in 'Quis est homo'. Some aspects are superbly judged: several ritornelli are perfectly weighted and the Ricercar Consort play with sensual warmth - a sensation encouraged by a larger body of strings than is used in some performances.
