The English veterans have combined mood tunes with several very strong songs here, with a soundscape that is really fascinating. At the most mellow you may associate the music with early Marillion and late 70's Eloy, while the harder parts stretch out towards prog metal territory. And the mood of the album is a dark one, filled with sadness, grief and anguish - and something undefinable "more". As for instrumentation, the synth is central in adding to melodies and soundscape, as backdrop or floating above the other instruments in the soundscape. The guitars are dark, polished but somewhat gritty, and played so that you'll hear each individual tone to a shorter or longer extent rather than plain riffing. Rhythm section is energetic and hard, often played in a fashion reminding of prog metal. And the vocals are used as an instrument in it's own right as well.

Regular progheads need no introduction to this talented bassist. Abraham spent three years as bassist with Galahad before jumping ship to release a highly regarded solo debut, Black And White, in 2009. Abraham has wisely retained most of those players that helped out with a handful of live dates, swelling their number with some special guests including Dec Burke of Frost, Lifesigns’ own John Young, the much-travelled, sorely underrated Steve Thorne and Marc Atkinson of UK proggers Riversea. Distant Days is another lush-sounding collection of incredible grace and depth…

It is safe to say that the end of the Nineties and into the Millenium was a trying time for Galahad. From the middle of 1992 until 1998 they had kept the same line-up, but in 1998 not only did they have to find a new keyboard player but also Roy Keyworth had left. Given that Roy was the only original member apart from Stu, this was quite a shock to everyone involved with the band. Luckily Roy returned the following year, and with new keyboard player Dean Baker on board they started work on ‘Year Zero’. Galahad have never been afraid of pushing boundaries, and had released albums as Galahad Acoustic Quintet and Galahad Electric Company, but here they stayed much more within the prog field but definitely changed their approach…

This was the second Galahad studio album released in 2012. Once again expertly recorded and mixed by Karl Groom at Thin Ice and showing a similar diverse range of styles and influences to 'Battle Scars', and some! 'Euphoria' comes wrapped in a clear, pristine, often widescreen production punctuated by occasional passages of quiet beauty and delicate sensitivity. The vibrant and colourful cover art is taken from a portrait 'Harmony', painted by up and coming young British artist Emma Grzonkowski.

Nothing Is Written (1991). 'Nothing Is Written' was the first proper full length Galahad album to be released on CD in June 1991. The band at this point were still very young, three members being barely out their teens, however the band managed to independently write, rehearse, arrange and record this album on a shoestring budget paid for by themselves from gig money/merchandise etc. It is interesting to note that the Mellotron used in 'Nothing Is Written' belonged to Martin Orford of IQ at the time and was subsquently sold to Clive Nolan (Pendragon/Arena/Shadowland etc.) and used by the band again fifteen years later at Thin Ice Studios on their 'Empires Never Last' album and then subsequently on 'Battle Scars' and 'Beyond the Realms of Euphoria' in 2012…
