Detlev Schmidtchen was a member of Eloy from 1976 to 1979 first as a second guitarist, but subsequently as keyboardist. Leaving the band, he and ex- Eloy drummer Jürgen Rosenthal formed the group Ego on the Rocks releasing a single album in 1981. In 2007-2009 Schmidtchen released a series of concept albums joined again by Jürgen Rosenthal.

Detlev Schmidtchen, born in 1954 in Wolfenbüttel, had been an important piece of the Eloy core during the second half of the 70's.He started his career with Getriebe, before meeting Frank Bornemann in a 75' festival, where the winners had the opportunity to have dinner with Eloy, who were the headliners…
