It's hard to believe that at this stage of the game, Petula Clark is turning out some of the best work of her recording career - but it's true. The lady is in her mid-80's now, and it seems her voice refuses to age. It's truly amazing. Yes - the voice has changed… it's a little lower, but still instantly recognizable… still that feminine beautiful sound… still able to bounce around a melody line with ease. Hats off to those that produced this album, as it comes off as a true labor of love. I feel like these people recognize & respect the talent that IS Petula Clark, and have produced something worthy of the lady. The arrangements are stunning - a bit of classic '60's rock going on, but with it we get awesome strings, with the arrangements taking us places we're not expecting them to go. THIS is how I love to hear Petula. From what I understand, these songs were written for her, and she approaches the songs with total commitment. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this new CD. I do not speak (or understand) French - but it doesn't matter. The mere sound of her voice on this recording is enough to take me on the journey with her. She hasn't sounded this good in years - and it is a total joy to hear her like this.
