Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

Relativistic Quantum Mechanics by Hartmut M. Pilkuhn
English | PDF (True) | 2003 | 244 Pages | ISBN : N/A | 19.2 MB

In this book, quantum mechanics is developed from the outset on a relativistic basis, using the superposition principle, Lorentz invariance and gauge invariance. Nonrelativistic quantum mechanics as well as classical relativistic mechanics appear as special cases. They are the sources of familiar names such as "orbital angular momentum", "spin-orbit coupling" and "magnetic moment" for operators of the relativistic quantum formalism. The theory of binaries, in terms of differential equations, is treated for the first time in this book. These have the mathematical structure of the corresponding one-body equations (Klein–Gordon for two spinless particles, Dirac for two spinor particles) with a relativistically reduced mass. They allow the calculation of radiative corrections via the vector potential operator.

Time in Quantum Mechanics

Time in Quantum Mechanics

Time in Quantum Mechanics by J. G. Muga, R. Sala Mayato, I. L. Egusquiza
English | PDF (True) | 2002 | 431 Pages | ISBN : 3540432949 | 4.8 MB

Time and quantum mechanics have, each of them separately, captivated s- entists and laymen alike, as shown by the abundance of popular publications on “time” or on the many quantum mysteries or paradoxes. We too have been seduced by these two topics, and in particular by their combination. Indeed, the treatment of time in quantum mechanics is one of the important and challenging open questions in the foundations of quantum theory. This book describes the problems, and the attempts and achievements in de?ning, formalizing and measuring di?erent time quantities in quantum theory, such as the parametric (clock) time, tunneling times, decay times, dwell times, delay times, arrival times or jump times. The theoretical analysis of several of these quantities has been controversial and is still subject to debate. For example, there are literally hundreds of research papers on the tunneling time. In fact, the standard recipe to link the observables and the formalism does not seem to apply, at least in an obvious manner, to time observables. This has posed the challenge of extending the domain of ordinary quantum mechanics.

Angular Momentum Techniques in Quantum Mechanics

Angular Momentum Techniques in Quantum Mechanics

Angular Momentum Techniques in Quantum Mechanics by V. Devanathan
English | PDF | 2002 | 255 Pages | ISBN : 079235866X | 9.6 MB

A course in angular momentum techniques is essential for quantitative study of problems in atomic physics, molecular physics, nuclear physics and solid state physics. This book has grown out of such a course given to the students of the M. Sc. and M. Phil. degree courses at the University of Madras. An elementary knowledge of quantum mechanics is an essential pre-requisite to undertake this course but no knowledge of group theory is assumed on the part of the readers. Although the subject matter has group-theoretic origin, special efforts have been made to avoid the gro- theoretical language but place emphasis on the algebraic formalism dev- oped by Racah (1942a, 1942b, 1943, 1951). How far I am successful in this project is left to the discerning reader to judge. After the publication of the two classic books, one by Rose and the other by Edmonds on this subject in the year 1957, the application of angular momentum techniques to solve physical problems has become so common that it is found desirable to organize a separate course on this subject to the students of physics. It is to cater to the needs of such students and research workers that this book is written. A large number of questions and problems given at the end of each chapter will enable the reader to have a clearer understanding of the subject.

On the Wave Nature of Matter: A New Approach to Reconciling Quantum Mechanics and Relativity

On the Wave Nature of Matter: A New Approach to Reconciling Quantum Mechanics and Relativity by Donald C. Chang
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 341 Pages | ISBN : 3031487761 | 41.1 MB

This book presents a new approach to understanding the foundation of quantum physics through the "quantum wave model" hypothesis. It addresses some of the key challenges in the current quantum theory, including the conflict between quantum mechanics and relativity, and offers a comprehensive solution to many of the existing mysteries in the field. By proposing that the vacuum is a dielectric medium and quantum particles are quantized excitation waves of the vacuum, the book provides a clear physical interpretation of wave-particle duality and explains the physical basis of energy, momentum, and mass.

Multiscale Methods in Quantum Mechanics: Theory and Experiment

Multiscale Methods in Quantum Mechanics: Theory and Experiment by Philippe Blanchard, Gianfausto Dell’Antonio
English | PDF | 2004 | 223 Pages | ISBN : 0817632565 | 21 MB

In the last few years, multiscale methods have lead to spectacular progress in our understanding of complex physical systems and have stimulated the development of very refined mathematical techniques. At the same time on the experimental side, equally spectacular progress has been made in developing experimental machinery and techniques to test the foundations of quantum mechanics. In view of this progress, this volume is very timely; it is the first text totally devoted to multiscale methods as applied to various areas of physics and to the relative developments in mathematics.
