Analysis of Computer and Communication Networks

Analysis of Computer and Communication Networks by Fayez Gebali
English | PDF (True) | 2008 | 685 Pages | ISBN : 0387744363 | 7.9 MB

The purpose of this book is to give the reader two things, to paraphrase Mark Twain: Roots to know the basics of modeling networks and Wings to fly away and attempt modeling other proposed systems of interest. The Internet phenomenon is affecting us all in the way we communicate, conduct business, and access information and entertainment. More unforeseen applications are still to come. All of this is due to the existence of an efficient global hi- performance network that connects millions of users and moves information at a high rate with small delay.

Fowler-Nordheim Field Emission: Effects in Semiconductor Nanostructures by Sitangshu Bhattacharya , Kamakhya Prasad Ghatak
English | PDF (True) | 2012 | 353 Pages | ISBN : 3642204929 | 4.4 MB

This monograph solely presents the Fowler-Nordheim field emission (FNFE) from semiconductors and their nanostructures. The materials considered are quantum confined non-linear optical, III-V, II-VI, Ge, Te, carbon nanotubes, PtSb2, stressed materials, Bismuth, GaP, Gallium Antimonide, II-V, Bi2Te3, III-V, II-VI, IV-VI and HgTe/CdTe superlattices with graded interfaces and effective mass superlattices under magnetic quantization and quantum wires of the aforementioned superlattices. The FNFE in opto-electronic materials and their quantum confined counterparts is studied in the presence of light waves and intense electric fields on the basis of newly formulated electron dispersion laws that control the studies of such quantum effect devices. The importance of band gap measurements in opto-electronic materials in the presence of external fields is discussed from this perspective. This monograph contains 200 open research problems which form the very core and are useful for Ph. D students and researchers. The book can also serve as a basis for a graduate course on field emission from solids.

Femtosecond Laser Filamentation

Femtosecond Laser Filamentation by See Leang Chin
English | PDF (True) | 2010 | 138 Pages | ISBN : 1441906878 | 5.2 MB

This book attempts to give a discussion of the physics and current and potential applications of the self-focusing of an intense femtosecond laser pulse in a tra- parent medium. Although self-focusing is an old subject of nonlinear optics, the consequence of self-focusing of intense femtosecond laser pulses is totally new and unexpected. Thus, new phenomena are observed, such as long range lam- tation, intensity clamping, white light laser pulse, self-spatial ltering, self-group phase locking, self-pulse compression, clean nonlinear uorescence, and so on. Long range propagation at high intensity, which is seemingly against the law of diffraction, is probably one of the most exciting consequences of this new sub- eld of nonlinear optics. Because the intensity inside the lament core is high, new ways of doing nonlinear optics inside the lament become possible. We call this lamentation nonlinear optics. We shall describe the generation of pulses at other wavelengths in the visible and ultraviolet (UV) starting from the near infrared pump pulse at 800 nm through four-wave-mixing and third harmonic generation, all in gases. Remotely sensing uorescence from the fragments of chemical and biological agents in all forms, gaseous, aerosol or solid, inside the laments in air is demonstrated in the labo- tory. The results will be shown in the last part of the book. Through analyzing the uorescence of gas molecules inside the lament, an unexpected physical process pertaining to the interaction of synchrotron radiation with molecules is observed.

Sparse Sensing and Sparsity Sensed in Multi-sensor Array Applications

Sparse Sensing and Sparsity Sensed in Multi-sensor Array Applications by Xiangrong Wang , Xianghua Wang , Weitong Zhai , Kaiquan Cai
English | PDF EPUB (True) | 2024 | 387 Pages | ISBN : 9819995574 | 90.9 MB

The book focuses on sparse multi-sensor array systems and design approaches. Both principles and engineering practice have been addressed, with more weight placed on algorithm development. This is achieved by providing an in-depth study on sparse sensing for several major multi-sensor array applications such as beam-pattern synthesis, adaptive beamforming, target detection, arrival angle estimation, and dual-functional radar communications. Sparsity sensed in multi-sensor arrays refers to the sparse property of the spatial spectrum sensed. The exploitation of the sparsity in the sensed can significantly enhance the performance of signal processing systems. The comprehensive and systematic treatment of theory and practice in different array applications is one of the major features of the book, which is particularly suited for readers who are interested to learn practical solutions in array signal processing. The book benefits researchers, engineers, and graduate students in the fields of signal processing, electrical engineering, telecommunications, etc.

Direct Conversion Receivers in Wide-Band Systems by Aarno Pärssinen
English | PDF | 2001 | 250 Pages | ISBN : 0792376072 | 19.5 MB

This book is based on my doctoral thesis at the Helsinki University of Technology. Several different projects during five years guided me from the basics of the RF IC design to the implementations of highly integrated radio receiver chips. Sharing time and effort between IC and system issues is not always straightforward. I have been lucky to follow both topics and share experiences with diligent and enthusiastic people having different specialities. As a result, this book will cover a wide range of different topics needed in the design of highly integrated radio receivers. Experiences from the first receiver prototypes for the third generation cellular systems form the basis of this book. Most of the issues are directly related to the early proposals of European and Japanese standardization organizations. For example, the chip rate was originally set to 4. 096 Mcps in a wide-band CDMA channel. I have kept that number in the book in most of the examples although it has been later changed to 3. 84 Mcps. I hope that the readers will accept that and the possible other incompabilities to the latest specifications. At least in the research phase the changes even in the most essential requirements are definitely not a rare incident and IC designers should be able to react and modify their designs as soon as they can.

Traffic Grooming in Optical WDM Mesh Networks by Keyao Zhu , Hongyue Zhu , Biswanath Mukherjee
English | PDF | 2005 | 189 Pages | ISBN : 0387254323 | 11 MB

Optical networks based on wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) tech nology offer the promise to satisfy the bandwidth requirements of the Inter net infrastructure, and provide a scalable solution to support the bandwidth needs of future applications in the local and wide areas. In a waveleng- routed network, an optical channel, referred to as a lightpath, is set up between two network nodes for communication. Using WDM technology, an optical fiber link can support multiple non-overlapping wavelength channels, each of which can be operated at the data rate of 10 Gbps or 40 Gbps today.
