Description
Pistons and valves are two of the most important components of the internal combustion engine. These two components undergo severe thermal and mechanical stresses during the Engine operation and driving cycle. Needless to say, the failure rate of the above mentioned two components is quite high when compared to the failure rate of the other components of the engine. For an IC engine engineer it is imperative to know the various modes of the failure of piston and valve and also the root causes of the failures. This course extensively covers various failure modes and the root causes of the same. The course clearly educates the student the fine differences in the various failure modes and the corrective actions that need to be taken.
Automotive engineering: piston and Valve failure analysis is the first course of its kind which elaborately explains the various circumstances in which valve and piston can fail.
Some sample failure modes are piston fusion, Piston pin failure, valve guttering, valve rim splitting, valve rim burning. Some of the root causes are misalignment of the valves, detonation in the combustion chamber, cooling failure in the cooling system, thermostat failure etc. All the above failure modes and root causes will be clearly explained.
Who this course is for:
