As poetic as Stoicism may sound, it actually comes with a rather tough side that takes some time to embrace. That is, Stoicism is specifically your ability to endure pain or hardship without complaining or displaying any feelings for others to witness in you. During the gladiator era, this was essential as it supported individuals in hiding their weaknesses from their aggressors, which often supported them in appearing stronger than they really were. The purpose of Stoicism not only aided individuals in hiding their weaknesses and accentuating their strengths, but it also helped them with living in harmony with reason while also remaining indifferent to pleasure, pain, and fortune. Through all of this, these individuals were able to endure life in a more balanced way that resembled a certain strength in leadership, as well as support them to not be overtaken by their emotions. In other words, this is an ancient practice of modern Emotional Intelligence.
