Many adults are a little nervous about teaching their children 'the wrong way' in maths because they have heard that the subject is taught differently today.
The Primary Maths Is Not A Mystery series is a set of books that show adults how maths is taught, giving the adult a chance to discuss confidently and work with their child. The work progresses in gentle steps and their is lots of opportunity to practice and to see in detail how the answers to questions have been worked out.
This book explains how to approach questions that contain more than one operation. When a question has a mixture of multiplication, division, addition or subtraction, or when it has brackets or indices, there is a specific order you must follow to solve it correctly. For example 7 + 3 x 2 could have an answer of 20 or 13, depending on how you approach it. Only one of those answers is correct. Knowing how to use BIDMAS helps you to answer correctly.
