The Book of Decisions is about fate: Your personal fate.

Our personal fate, as distinct from whatever conditions affect us as a group, is the development of events, especially unfortunate events, that affect our individual lives but are beyond our control. Seeing no cause for such events in our past actions, we variously ascribe them to a supernatural order or to random chance.

However, such sweeping definition of personal good or bad fortune grossly overstates the case. As the Book of Decisions shows, personal fate can in fact and in very substantial measure be traced back to deliberate actions of the individual concerned.

The human psyche is equipped with a most imperative sense of orientation: As we contemplate an action or decision, it autonomously and instantly passes judgement as to whether or not it is in our ‘true’ interest. It reflects nothing less than the unreasoned dictates of our primeval will to live. Its precepts define our individuality with absolute finality, like a psychic DNA.

Against the judgement of this inner law of conduct there is no appeal. And the sanctions for ignoring it are inescapable and, quite possibly, devastating in a very real sense. Only by complying with its decrees can we ever hope to achieve lasting satisfaction, contentment, or whatever we consider ‘happiness’. Ignoring them must inevitably lead to disappointment, misery and depression.

This does not, of course, argue against our freedom to act contrary to the urges of that primitive law, which is perfectly impervious to collective conventions of propriety and morals. Surely, though, it would be preferable to know beforehand what we risk by defying it.

But there we encounter a problem: Operating beneath the surface of our subconscious, that voice of our inner guide is rarely heard amid the more strident notes of our hopes and wishes conditioned by mainstream conventions and fashions. You may recall occasions when a decision of consequence left you with a nagging sense of discomfort, even foreboding. But mostly reason will dismiss such fleeting notions as irrational and find them easy to suppress and to forget.

In this way whole careers, even entire lives, to all the world full of success and achievement, can be spent in enduring misery by the individual concerned, who will most likely, if erroneously, feel the victim of a hostile fate.

This is the specific problem the Book of Decisions addresses: It aims to enable you to consult your inner guide before you decide on a particular course of action.

For learning more about the book’s approach and method access preface and introductory text by way of the “Look inside” facility provided on this page.

Of course, the proof of a method is in its application. This is why The Book of Decisions is conceived as a hybrid: a presentation of its foundations and a software in ‘game’ format as a medium for translating it into real life applicability.

The game is designed to help you to develop a practicable approach to decision making that best serves your own true interests. But, more than that, it helps you apply those principles to any real and present decision problem confronting you.
