This book aims to analyze the contribution of money in the (re)production of the dominant ideology and, consequently, in the process of social constitution.Contrary to most of the critiques of capitalism that concentrate on the commodity form and the problem of alienation it focuses on an analysis of the process of the articulation of desire through money and of the constitution of subjectivity in the market economy. Drawing upon Jacques Lacan, Jean Baudrillard and their intellectual heirs it combines a structuralist reading of capitalism’s constitutive ideology, where money functions as the main vehicle of meaning and consistency, with a study of the affective investment in this ideology.
