Rapid development of modern advanced technologies require new engineering materials with special properties. It is highly improbable that all such requirements can be satisfied by any single-component material; hence, one should look for a multi-component composite with a desired combination of properties. This is a familiar materials science problem which may be solved either by empirical screening of many test specimens, or by theoretical analysis of an appropriate model, or by both. In the latter case, however, a misfit between theory and experiment is not rare; in fact, simple variation of shape and/or size of particles of a disperse component sometimes leads to profound changes in properties of a composite, which the current theoretical models can hardly predict. Thus, the need for the incorporation of new physical ideas gained from experiments into theoretical models becomes obvious.
